Transcripts – archdeacons and bishops
Archdeacons and bishops transcripts are copies of baptisms, marriages and burials entries in parish registers. They are useful because although they’re meant to be exact copies, can sometimes contain entries and valuable details which were left out from the original registers.
They were stored centrally at either Canterbury or Rochester diocese rather than at each church so are often in better condition than parish registers.

We hold original and microfilm transcripts for most of present day Kent at the Kent History and Library Centre. Some transcripts are held at Lambeth Palace Library.
